MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM

Call for Application – Academic Year 2021-2022

 

Based on the announcement of Hanoi Medical University on postgraduate studies application and examination for the academic year of 2021 – 2022, the School of Preventive Medicine and Public Health (SPMPH) is pleased to invite qualified and interested candidates to apply for a place in the full-time International Master of Public Health program for the 2021 - 2022 academic year, commencing around October 2021.

The program has three tracks with specialization in 1) One Health and General Public Health; 2) Health Economics; and 3) Reproductive Health. The program offers a limited number of merit-based scholarships.

Faculty members of the program are lecturers of Hanoi Medical University and staff members of various international universities and international organizations in Vietnam, the US, Australia and Europe. The SPMPH’s lecturers have been trained in prestigious universities in the US, Australia, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark and other developed countries, possessing deep knowledge and understanding of public health and preventive medicine research and practice in the global arena.

Program Overview

The full-time Master of Public Health International Program at Hanoi Medical University, first established in 2015, is designed to train a new generation of competent public health researchers and practitioners. The specialized tracks are combined inter-disciplines to establish advantageous conditions for professional developments in both national and global environments.

As a graduate of our Master of Public Health International Program, you will be equipped with the knowledge and analytical skills to raise your professional profile, to apply different perspectives to address issues in public health, health economics and policy, reproductive health and to deepen your participation in ongoing conversations about key issues in global health.

Completing in one year, you will earn a Master degree in Public Health, awarded by Hanoi Medical University, as well as learn and flourish in a multicultural environment.

In the program, students will take eight (08) compulsory courses and four (04) elective courses, and will complete a final thesis to fulfill graduation requirements. In the final thesis, students will be able to pursue their own public health interests, and to investigate a question or problem of their choice.

Training duration: 12 months (mid Oct 2021 to mid Oct 2022)

Tuition fee: 3,500 USD (converted to Vietnamese Dong at the time of first payment)

Eligibility and Admission Criteria

Applicants from any country are eligible for the program and should have the following prerequisites:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least 1 year of work experience in one of the following fields - medicine, public health, veterinary medicine, economic, environmental sciences or related disciplines. This prerequisite may be waived by the course organisers if applicants achieved a high ranking in one of these related batchelor degrees.
  • Proof of English proficiency: TOEFL IBT scores of 70 or more; TOEFL PBT scores of 500 or more, or IELTS scores of 5.5 or more. (Native English speakers are waived of this requirement).

Shortlisted applicants will be invited for examination by interview with the Examination Committee.

The total number of prospective students of this 2021 - 2022 intake is anticipated to be about 30.

Application for admission

Applicants must submit:

  1. A completed application form;
  2. A letter from the current or most recent employer to certify work experience (at least one year in the areas stated above) or a request to waive this prerequisite;
  3. A cover letter outlining the reasons they want to enroll in the course;
  4. An up-to-date curriculum vitae: Including general information, training process, work experiences, publications, and other skills related to public health…;
  5. Notarized copies of Bachelor’s degrees;
  6. Health certificate (To make sure that you can study in our university);
  7. Official proof of English proficiency as stated above;
  8. 2 current photos (3x4 cm) (have been taken within 3 months). Write your name and date of birth behind your photos;
  9. Copy of ID card/passport.

Scholarships

There are limited number of scholarships for international and Vietnamese applicants. Scholarships will be awarded based on academic merits and competencies of candidates. Successful applicants are encouraged to seek outside scholarships and the SPMPH is happy to provide letter of support.

Course enrollment fee: 20 USD (Applicants may pay cash or make a wire transfer at the time of submitting their application. International applicants will be given details for transfer after submitting the applications). This fee is non-refundable and does not guarantee admission.

Deadline for application                              : 31 May 2021

Applications will be reviewed by the Admission Committee and only those shortlisted will be invited for interviews with the Examination Committee.

Notification of interview                              : end of June 2021

Interview appointments                              : end of July 2021
